Children Love To Learn

Curriculum

In general our emphasis is upon facilitating cognitive learning,
and our approach is to individualize instruction with small group
and one-on-one instruction as the norm.  Our curriculum is
accelerated, but with the respect to individual differences.

Beginning with the youngest children, cognitive learning
proceeds from varied experience with the SENSORIAL
(perceptual training) materials which focus on color, shape,
texture, sound, etc.

PRACTICAL LIFE exercises not only develop practical, every-day skills, but are an excellent avenue to lengthen concentration and develop work habits.

The early introduction of phonics forms the core of our LANGUAGE curriculum.  Children proceed at their own pace according to interest and ability.  We also stress early pre-writing and writing skills.

MATH AND NUMBER CONCEPTS are readily grasped using the concrete manipulative learning materials which Montessori designed.

We consider the ARTS as basic.  Songs, movement and various MUSIC experiences are provided for all the children, as well as a wide variety of experiences in the VISUAL ARTS area.  FRENCH LANGUAGE classes are available for elementary students.  SPANISH LANGUAGE is offered at all levels.

THE ELEMENTARY PROGRAM
Building upon the strong foundation of the Montessori preschool program, the elementary classes give opportunities to expand knowledge, imagination and creativity.  COMPUTER INSTRUCTION begins at the kindergarten level, CULTURAL AND NATURES STUDIES are presented in depth.  Good LITERATURE is emphasized.  The curriculum of the public schools serves as a guide for minimum achievement goals.  Since children learn at their own pace and in small classes, many of them frequently exceed these public school norms.

Mere academic acceleration, however, is not our fundamental goal.  Instead, we seek to foster the well-rounded "Renaissance person" with a love of learning, love of living things, respect for other individuals and cultures, an appreciation of active participation in the arts, and openness to new ideas and possibilities, self-esteem, self-discipline and high moral values.

Our Teachers

AS A PARENT, YOU ARE YOUR CHILD'S FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT TEACHER.  Along with the love and nurturing that you give your child, you work hard to offer an example and role model of the qualities you hope to shape and encourage.

Montessori observed that the young child has an ABSORBENT MIND which literally takes in every sight, sound, smell, touch and experience in the environment.  It is because of this sponge-like way of learning that we seek, in the Montessori environment, to surround the child with beauty and order.  When good music, art and well-spoken language are the norm, this is what the child assimilates.

Our teachers work diligently to PREPARE every detail of THE school ENVIRONMENT, to provide rich opportunities for exploration and discovery and strive to serve as models of caring behavior for your child, just as you do yourself.

MONTESSORI TEACHING
We base our approach upon a sincere respect for the child as a developing person.  The child's natural curiosity and inner impulse to grow and master skills is carefully nurtured and encouraged.  Independence is fostered.  Activity and discovery are our watch words.

Our staff of teachers are here to support you in nurturing and educating your child.  The lead teacher in each classroom has been thoroughly trained and is usually certified instructor in the Montessori Method.  Otherwise the lead teacher is highly qualified in Early Childhood courses through a Community of Four-year college.  We employ both International and American trained teachers.  Normally, the teacher training is a one-year program following a B.A. degree and is comparable to the fifth year in public school credential programs.  In addition, our teachers are actively involved in continuing professional development workshops and seminars.

Our support and extended-day teachers are not merely aides, they are fully qualified preschool or recreation teachers and receive in-service training in teaching techniques, health and safety.

Your child is special to us.  When you entrust us with the care and education of that developing person, we offer our commitment to do our best to serve you and your child and t meet Maria Montessori's goal to "EDUCATE THE HUMAN POTENTIAL."
